BMI Amputee Calculator
Clinically accurate BMI assessment for individuals with limb loss. This tool uses corrected weight formulas to calculate BMI for amputees, providing a better reflection of metabolic health.

How to Calculate BMI for Amputee Patients?
Standard BMI is a simple ratio of weight to height ($W / H^2$). When a limb is lost, the total body weight decreases significantly, but the person's height remains the same. This often results in an artificially low BMI that suggests a "healthy" or "underweight" status, even if the individual has high levels of body fat or metabolic risk.
Our BMI amputation calculator uses clinical research to estimate what the individual would weigh if the limb were present, allowing for a standard health risk assessment.
The Amputee BMI Formula
Corrected Weight = Actual Weight / (1.0 - Total % of Limbs Lost)
- Entire Leg: ~16.0% of total body weight
- Lower Leg (Below Knee): ~5.9% (including foot)
- Entire Arm: ~5.0% of total body weight
